Founder & Head Skills Coach
Val Johnston is a professional hockey player and development coach whose approach was shaped by persistence, global learning, and a refusal to accept average development.
Raised in the Greater Toronto Area hockey system, Val played across multiple junior leagues where he quickly learned a hard truth: effort alone is not enough. Progress requires structure, feedback, and the right environment. Rather than plateau, Val kept searching for better answers — training wherever learning was available, often outside of Canada.
That search led him to work extensively with respected coaches in European hockey systems, where player development is approached methodically and patiently. There, Val was immersed in training models that emphasize skating efficiency, puck control under pressure, decision speed, and repeatable mechanics — skills built to hold up under game conditions, not just in drills.
In 2026, Val begins his professional playing career in Europe. His academy is the result of everything he learned along the way.
Val founded this program to give players and families what he once had to fight for: clarity, structure, and a positive, player-first development environment. His coaching blends modern movement science with international best practice, delivered calmly and intentionally, with clear communication and measurable progress.
He believes great development happens when players feel safe, challenged, and understood, and when parents are informed, included, and confident in the process.
This academy exists for families who care about how players improve — not just how hard they work.
We believe:
- Confidence comes from competence
- Structure creates freedom
- Calm environments create growth
- Development beats hype
- Players deserve respect
Every decision we make reflects these values
